Ratchet Straps for Cargo Securement Applications
Ratchet Straps are one of the most popular types of tie down straps used to secure cargo in pickup truck beds, utility trailers, car haulers, enclosed trailers, moving vans, dry vans, and flatbed trailers to name a few of the popular securement applications. Ratchet Straps are designed to provide heavy-duty strength and excellent durability to ensure that once your cargo is tightened into place it remains safely secured until you reach the next location.
Ratchet straps are tightened into place using ratchet hardware that flows in one direction to hold the cargo safely in place. Cranking the ratchet handle back and forth tightens the webbing and removes the excess slack until you have reached the desired strength. When you are unloading and ready to release it is as simple as pulling up on the lever release in the middle of the ratchet hardware and pulling out the excess webbing.
Polyester webbing is trusted among professional truck drivers due to its minimal stretching compared to alternative webbing blends such as nylon webbing used in recovery towing applications to prevent the strap from causing damage to the vehicle. Polyester webbing provides great durability and protection against moisture, mold, mildew, and direct sunlight which are some factors that can damage or even destroy the straps over time.
Whether keeping cargo secure in a pickup truck using a 1-inch ratchet strap or a 4-inch ratchet strap to secure some of the heaviest cargo on the road you can find everything you need to tackle the job at Trucking Depot. We have a wide selection of ratchet straps in stock or custom-made to fit your exact securement needs and corner protectors to provide a barrier between the straps and sharp edges.
All of our Ratchet Straps include a visible Working Load Limit (WLL) tag and a statement of compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) industry standards.
The Different Sizes of Ratchet Straps
Ratchet straps are available in four different width options depending on your cargo control needs. The 1-inch ratchet straps are the lightest-duty option for pickup truck beds, utility trailers, or around-the-house securement applications. The 4-inch ratchet straps are our heaviest-duty option and are used mainly only for securement applications on flatbed trailers.
4-inch ratchet straps are extremely heavy-duty and should never be used for securement applications in pickup trucks or pickup trailers as the 4-inch ratchet hardware is 12 inches long and over 8 lbs in weight alone. This is our heaviest-duty ratchet strap made from 24,000 lbs breaking strength 4-inch wide webbing and can have upwards of a 6,000 lbs safe working load limit rating per ratchet strap.
If you need a shorter or longer ratchet strap we can help by sewing a custom made ratchet strap at our location in Bellville, Ohio tailored to your exact cargo control needs. We can also adjust the short-end or long-end length of the ratchet strap to ensure it is set up exactly how you need it.
