1/4-inch Transport Chains & Chain Binders

1/4-inch transport chains and binders are commonly used for lighter-duty securement applications on flatbed trailers. Some of the most popular securement applications include securing general freight on flatbeds, transporting farm machinery, construction equipment, lumber, and flatbed wreckers.

Transport chains and binders are ideal for securement applications that require heavier strength to keep the cargo secure or contain sharp edges. Our transport chain is made from high-strength steel providing excellent strength and durability. It also has a gold chromate finish, which helps prevent corrosion and rust from repetitive usage.

Alternative securement methods such as tie-down straps, which use tie-down webbing can become damaged from sharp edges causing them to become damaged or even fail while on the road. This is one of the reasons we recommend transport chains and binders when applicable due to their heavy-duty strength and durability.

Our transport chains are stamped every 7th chain link with either G30 (Grade 30) or G70 (Grade 70) so that you know exactly what your chain is rated for and to stay in compliance with the rules and regulations from the Department of Transportation (DOT).

The Different 1/4-inch Transport Chain Grades

1/4-inch Grade 30 Transport Chain is used for lighter-duty securement applications and has a 1,250 lbs working load limit (WLL). Grade 30 transport chain is mainly used to secure vehicles on trailers or tow trucks, UTVs, ATVs, and lighter general freight.

1/4-inch Grade 70 Transport Chain is used for light-duty and heavy-duty securement applications such as vehicles, farm equipment, metal coils, machinery, and tractors. 1/4-inch G70 chain has a 3,150 lbs working load limit (WLL) and is made from heat-treated steel. It is also coated in a protective gold chromate that prevents corrosion and rust.

The Different 1/4-inch Chain Binder Styles

Some of the different 1/4-inch chain load binders we offer include Lever Style Binders and Ratchet Load Binders. Both options work great at tightening the chain to flatbeds or rollbacks. The main difference between the two is how they are tightened and released.

1/4-inch Lever Style Binder is an older style of chain binder that requires more hand strength to tighten. One of the benefits of this style of lever binder is that it is lighter in weight when carrying multiple of them and is much quicker to tighten into place as it has fewer moving components. One of the cons of using this binder style is it can be potentially dangerous when improperly used and has less recoil control when tightening and releasing the chain.

When using lever-style load binders you should never use a cheater bar to add additional or faster tensioning as you could exceed the product’s load capacities causing damage or injury. When releasing the transport chain you should also position yourself away from the chain as a safety precaution.

1/4-inch Ratchet Style Binder uses a ratchet mechanism to tighten the transport chain that flows in one direction with every rotation. While slower to tighten than lever-style binders it is much safer and ideal for heavier-duty securement applications as you can apply much heavier tension.

1/4-inch Transport Chain Drums

We have several 1/4-inch transport chain barrels for sale that are used to create bulk chains in the exact lengths you need for your cargo securement application needs. Once the 1/4-inch chain is cut to size it can be paired with our 1/4-inch clevis grab hooks sold separately as a quick and trusted securement method on rolls-back and flatbed trailers.

1/4-inch transport drums include 800 feet of either grade 30 or 70 transport chain per drum. Transport chain drums/barrels do not include clevis grab hooks and are not cut to any length.

Chain barrels are a cost-effective solution for fleets to purchase bulk chains and cut them to size at a fraction of the price of a pre-cut chain.
