Dunnage Bags for Load Stabilization and Load Bracing

Dunnage Air Bags have become a staple for professional truckers shipping inside enclosed trailers, dry vans, or box trucks. Dunnage bags provide an inexpensive and highly effective way to hold your cargo against the trailer’s interior walls using air pressure.

Dunnage Airbags are bags of air that can become inflated using either a portable airbag inflator or a dunnage airbag inflator that can be installed by using airlines located near loading docks of distribution centers or warehouses that are transporting cargo that are at higher risk of tipping over while moving down the road.

After spending hours on the road there is nothing worse than arriving at your customer’s location to discover when you are about to unload, that the load has tipped over and has become either damaged or destroyed. This leads to lost time, upset customers, and often negative reviews for your business and the possibility of repeat business.

This situation happens all too often in the cargo control industry and normally can be avoided entirely by having the right tools for the job. Dunnage Airbags are made from either a polypropylene woven (poly-woven) material or kraft paper material depending on the airbag material that pairs best with your cargo needs.

We also have various choices of dunnage bags from our standard Level 1 Airbags to our heaviest-duty Level 3 or 4 Airbags for applications that require heavier-duty strength. Airbags are available in our standard round or square airbags designed for bracing loads without needing additional dunnage bags.

Kraft Paper Dunnage Airbags

The added stiffness also provides tested and proven bracing performance to keep your load safe from one destination to the next.

Kraft paper dunnage bags use an industrial-style spring valve for added insurance on tough rides and do not include a thread cap. Instead, it uses a wide-mouth 2-way valve for quick inflation and deflation to help you save time loading or unloading. Our kraft dunnage bags are also AAR Verified Level 1 are completely recyclable and reusable and are usable with a Venturi inflator, providing added inflation speed and safety.

Kraft paper dunnage bags are a great alternative to poly woven dunnage bags. They come at a cost-effective price to provide extra insurance to your cargo to ensure it arrives at the next location safely. The Different Levels of Dunnage Airbags

Level 1 Poly-woven Dunnage Bags – Poly-woven Level 1 Dunnage Bags are AAR-verified with The Association of American Railroads. The outer layer is made from polypropylene and the texture may vary from bag to bag. The inner layer is made from polyethylene (special blend) and the valve material is constructed from 100% virgin M.D.P.E. which means that all materials are 100% recyclable.

The maximum suggested void size is 16 inches for over-the-road trucks and the max void size for Rail Intermodal is 12 inches. You can normally expect level 1 bags to inflate and fill within 6 to 30 seconds on average depending on the type of dunnage bag inflator and size of the airbag. Level 1 airbags work with all dunnage airbag inflators and portable airbag inflators.

Level 3/4 Poly-woven Dunnage Bags – Poly-woven Level 3/4 Dunnage Bags are AAR-Verified for use with The Association of American Railroads. Level 3 and Level 4 dunnage airbags are ultra-heavyweight bags used in railcars or loads weighing up to 192,000 lbs. These bags are poly-woven and have a working pressure of up to 10 psi. Our level 3/4 airbags work with our PA1-M, PA3-M, EA-4, or PA3-M-SH1G Inflators.

Kraft Paper Level 1 Dunnage Bags – High-strength Kraft paper dunnage airbags that are rigid with flex to conform to the size of your load. They have a wide-mouth two-way valve for fast inflation and deflation with a twist and lock valve for deflation. The working pressure for these airbags is 2.8 PSI. These dunnage bags are also 100% recyclable and are Level 1 AAR certified.

Level 1 AAR-verified kraft paper dunnage bags are cost-effective and reusable. These bags are designed for over-the-road trucks, intermodal rail, overseas containers, and boxcar rail. Dunnage Bags are also popular due to their load-stabilizing capability, which can protect the cargo from damages caused by constant load shifting during transit.

Dunnage Airbags vs Cargo Bars

We often hear from customers on whether they should use dunnage bags or cargo bars to provide load stability and prevent load shifts.

The real answer is each of these products complements each other and works best when paired. Dunnage airbags provide load stabilization from side to side, whereas cargo bars prevent cargo from tipping over in the trailer from front to back.

Dunnage airbags have a limited-time use product lifespan with the average lifespan ranging from 3-4 uses before the bag should be replaced to a maximum of 10 uses per dunnage bag. Cargo Bars are a larger upfront investment but tend to last upwards of several or more years depending on how they are handled and stored. You should always use proper operating and releasing procedures to avoid damage to the bars.
